Starting LightTools in Safe Mode

You can launch LightTools in safe mode in order to troubleshoot your system if you

experience a startup failure. In safe mode, LightTools opens in the following state:

Only the Console window is active.

• Because no design view is created, LightTools does attempt to locate any user defined

.env files, so no customized environment settings are loaded.

• OpenGL Hardware Acceleration is disabled. (The OpenGL Generic Software

Driver is used instead.)

• The charting component is not automatically loaded. (It will be loaded when

you open a chart.)

From this state, you can perform additional operations in incremental steps to determine the cause of the problem.

To start LightTools in safe mode, select the Windows Start menu, expand the LightTools group and select LightTools Safe Mode, shown in the following figure.

You can also start safe mode from a command prompt by using the command line argument -safemode.
